LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police officers arrested a 29-year-old resident of the Women's Shelter for allegedly putting her finger far enough down a 27-day-old baby's throat that the infant vomited four or five times Wednesday.

Danielle Marie Blunk, of Diboll, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on an injury to a child-reckless bodily injury charge, which is a state-jail felony. No bond amount has been set at this time.

According to the arrest affidavit, Officer Dale Dodd of the Lufkin Police Department was dispatched to give a 16-year-old girl and her baby back to the Women's Shelter. While the young woman was riding with the officer, she asked Dodd if there was anything she could do about the woman who hurt the girl's child.

The young mother told Lufkin Police officers that she had been lying on the couch in the Women's Shelter's family room. According to the affidavit, her baby boy was sleeping next to her. Two women that were also in the family room watching TV, and they told the mother that they would watch her baby for her while she slept.

The two women told police that while the young mother slept, another resident of the Women's Shelter, later identified as Blunk, allegedly came into the room and started touching the child. After allegedly rubbing the baby's lips with her fingers, Blunk stuck one finger down his throat far enough that he started to choke, the affidavit stated.

Startled by her actions, the two women yelled for the young woman to wake up, and when she did, Blunk left the room. The baby's mother told the Women's Shelter staff what had happened, and they called 911 for an ambulance.

The mother and her child were transported to the Woodland Heights Medical Center's emergency room. Upon examining the baby, the ER doctor said the infant had a minor scratch at the back of his throat, along with some irritation caused by the vomiting.

Dodd interviewed the two women that were watching the baby for the child's mother. Both women backed up the mother's story. They also told the LPD officer that Blunk had been walking the shelter's halls. At some point, Blunk started laughing in the mother's face and antagonizing her.

Although Blunk admitted to holding the child, she denied putting her finger in his mouth.

Because Blunk has some medical issues, she takes "quite a bit of medication," Dodd said in the affidavit. The LPD officer stated that Blunk was obviously over-medicated when Dodd talked to her.
