Crews to shift traffic near Cordes Junction

Posted: Updated:
CORDES JUNCTION, AZ (AP) -

The state Department of Transportation will be shifting traffic this Sunday around Cordes Junction.

Crews have been working on a $50 million project to rebuild the interchange at Interstate 17 and State Route 69 that dates to the early 1960s. About 27,500 vehicles use the interchange daily.

The department will be closing some old bridges and ramps Sunday and opening new ones. The new alignments will be in place for the next three months.

Drivers will be asked to slow down through the area while crews make the changes.

The interstate also will be narrowed to one lane in each direction for 12 hours starting Sunday evening as new ramps are opened. Some restriping is scheduled on the state highway, which also will affect traffic.
