NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A Nacogdoches woman died after hitting three vehicles heading the opposite direction Friday morning, just south of the Nacogdoches city limits.

Debby Jean Austin, 52, died on the scene.

According to the DPS report, Austin was driving a Ford Taurus southbound on US 59 when she crossed the median and struck three vehicles for an unknown reason. After first sideswiping a 2011 Mazda driven by Verna Sowler, 49, of Lufkin, Austin continued south in the northbound traffic lanes, striking a 2004 Saturn driven by Jamietra Hennington, 2, of Nacogdoches.

Then Austin's vehicle struck a 2005 Chevrolet 1500 truck driven by Lester Gold, 53, of Lufkin. After the final collision, Austin's Taurus was knocked into the center median.

Austin was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:30 a.m. by Nacogdoches' Precinct justice of the peace.

Golden is being treated for serious injuries at a Nacogdoches hospital, and Hennington was treated at a Nacogdoches hospital for seatbelt burns. Sowler was able to drive her Mazda away from the scene of the accident.

The initial DPS report said that everyone involved in the accident was wearing their seat belts.
