Freedom Fighters: Earl Downey

Earl Downey was eighteen when he joined the army air corps in 1942. Before he reached the age of twenty, he was piloting a b-24 liberator on bombing missions over Austria and Germany.

Although those flak guns were responsible for many deaths, downey says the americans had an ingenious way of confusing the guns.

Even though the foille would throw the German guns off, Downey's plane would still return to its base in Italy riddled with holes.

On one unlucky flight, the plane had 105 holes in it.
