Located in Marshall, on the highest hill in Harrison County, East Texas Baptist University is celebrating its one hundredth anniversary.

ETBU President, Dr. Dub Oliver, says the original idea came from William Thomas Tardy, who was the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Marshall. It was Hardy, who proposed the idea of a college in Marshall at a banquet celebrating fund raising efforts for Southern Methodist University

Even today, with students from the world over, ETBU is at heart an East Texas institution. It remains not only faith based, but with faith a part of every aspect of the school..

Joe Hogue, who graduated from ETBU in 1956, is one of many ex students who will be celebrating the schools anniversary next weekend. Hogue was a cheerleader, track star, manager of the basketball team and active in many clubs during his days at ETBU.
