Nacogdoches family hopes Obama sign party will thwart thief

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

A Nacogdoches family is rising to the occasion after someone stole two large Obama-Biden campaign signs from their fence Wednesday night. The Beal family will be hosting an Obama sign party at their house from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday.

"We have a fence with GREAT visibility," Brent Beal said in an e-mail message. "We put up two big, beautiful Obama signs a few days ago. Sadly, last night someone stole them."

In his e-mail, Beal said he and his family want local Obama supporters to bring signs to Friday's sign party. He said they can be professionally done, paper, cardboard, or even handwritten. Attendees to the sign party don't have to bring anything but their signs. Beal said he'll have screws, nails, and "maybe even a staple gun or two" for putting up the signs.

"Really, we'd like to cover all 100 feet of it with Obama signs to support Obama and make a point," Beal said in his e-mail.

In addition to the theft of the Beal family's signs, someone allegedly vandalized an Obama sign at the Stuckey-Garrigan law office located at 2803 North Street in Nacogdoches sometime between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 10:39 p.m. Wednesday, according to police reports.
