Ohio man killed in fiery 18-wheeler wreck near Goodrich

POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

An Ohio man who was in a wreck involving two 18-wheelers near Goodrich died Thursday morning.

William Spurgeon II, 47, of Xenia, Ohio, died at 7:30 a.m. at the scene.

According to the DPS report, Miguel Velazquez, of Maryville, Tenn., was driving a 2000 Freightliner and pulling out of a private drive two miles north of Goodrich and into the northbound lane of US 59 at 6:30 a.m. Terry Adkins, 48, of Washington, Ohio, was driving a 2007 International northbound on US 59 and hit Velazquez.

Both vehicles caught on fire.

Adkins was injured in the wreck and is listed in stable condition in a Livingston hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Spurgeon was a passenger in Adkins' vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

According to an article at PolkCountyToday.com, rescuers risked their lives to pull the drivers out of the rigs before they exploded.
