The name given to Dale Hyatt's b-17 bomber by its ground crew was "Tu Yung Tu."

The crew of Hyatt's "Tu Yung Tu" flying fortress was indeed very young. Most were only 18 with a pilot just 21.

As the oldest of the group, that 24 year old bombadier was nicknamed "father."

The crew of the Tu Yung Tu may have been young, but they were also brave, and they grew up fast on their very first combat mission.

On December 18,1944 during the height of the bloodiest battle of the war, The Battle of the Bulge, the Tu Yung Tu was bombing railyards in Koblis, Germany, in an effort to cut off supplies to the German army at the bulge.
