Lufkin man, Jasper man die after slamming into 18-wheeler

LEON COUNTY (KTRE) -

A Lufkin man and Jasper man died after driving into the back of an 18-wheeler in Leon County early Monday.

Marcus Jabbar Nichols, 30, of Lufkin, and James Dewayne Johnson, 30, of Jasper, died at the scene around 5:45 a.m.

According to the DPS report, Patrick Oshea Blackmon, of Palestine, was driving an 18-wheeler eastbound on State Highway 7, 16 miles east of Centerville and slowed down to take a right-hand turn into a private drive. Nichols, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid, rear-ended Blackmon's rig.

Nichols and Johnson were wearing seatbelts.
