Man sits on suspected car burglar

Posted: Updated:

(ABC) - There he was, in the middle of the street, sitting on a guy who he says broke into his SUV.

The big guy on top is resident Rene Huerta, and the guy he was pinning down is suspected car burglar, Michael Chavez.

According to the criminal complaint, Heurta heard his alarm go off, so he went outside to see what was going on. He says he saw Chavez and another guy rummaging through his Chevy Tahoe. The officer discovered how they allegedly got in. It happened in southwest Albuquerque off of Tower and 98th.

Car burlgaries are city-wide, and one of the highest property crime issues police are trying to curb.

In this case, Heurta chased Chavez down the street, fought with him...and then sat on him until police got there.

That may explain why Chavez sounded more than happy to see APD.
