By Joan Hallmark

During his time at Texas A&M Jim Eitell hadn't planned on a career in the army. It was after his commission as an officer that he begin to think about life in the military.

Eitell's first foreign posting was in Germany, just before the Berlin crisis. Next he was sent to Korea after the war had ended. Then he was sent to Pakistan just as the Japanese Pakistanian war was heating up.

In the country with the Vietnamese company, Eitell was eating with them, sleeping with them, and fighting with them.

However the Vietcong had other ideas. While the Americans did their searches during the day time the Viet hang did theirs at night.
