NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A video has surfaced which shows a violent string of brawls at The Anex, a Nacogdoches nightclub, which ended in the arrests of five men early Saturday.
The video shows bar stools being thrown over several people and fists flying with the target apparently being just one man.
Nacogdoches Police, Public Information Officer, Greg Sowell says, 5 men were arrested with charges ranging from disorderly conduct to resisting arrest and one man had a gun. "When our officers arrived they first saw a man exiting the club with a pistol in his hand. He was taken into custody and a .09 mm pistol was also recovered."
According to club owner, Ricky Miller, police were called out to The Anex about 30 minutes before the fight happened for another disturbance at the club.
Miller said the officer couldn't get through the crowd of nearly 500 party-goers so he released a pepper spray fog bomb and that's when things took a turn for the worse.
Miller said, "Pepper spray does not help calm down the crowd whatsoever, it dispersed a crowd but it's kinda like when you step on a fire ant bed, it makes them upset."
After the fog cleared, Miller says everyone outside made a mad-dash for the doors overwhelming the security team, making it hard for them to pat down the patrons and check for any weapons.
Miller says there was no fighting before the pepper spray but when everyone got back in the nightclub, fists just started flying. He says the fight featured in the YouTube video was just one of many fights. "There was more than one fight going on, that fight actually started in the front by the stage while 90% of the security were up front controlling another 20 or 30 people you know in a fight.
Police and the club owner say they can't pinpoint a specific reason for all the fighting.
Anex owner Ricky Miller said it took a few minutes for security to break up the fight.
Miller said 10 to 12 security personnel were working that night.
Arrested that night were Xavier Quinn Beal, 20, of Duncanville; Larry Fitzgerald Carson Jr., 24, of Dallas; Garrett Sam, 19, of Houston; Montavion De-von Scott, 22, of Lufkin; and Denarion Rashad Thomas, 23, of Dallas.
Thomas, Beal and Sam are charged with misdemeanor C disorderly conduct. Carson is charged with misdemeanor B possession of marijuana and interference with public duties and misdemeanor A resisting arrest. Scott is charged with third-degree unlawful carrying of a weapon.
