Girls who show signs of being overweight by age five are likely to be fighting their weight by the time they are nine. That information is according to a new study of 153 girls in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.

The study also found that the girls who tried to diet ended up putting on more weight. The Pennsylvania researchers urged parents to encourage physical activity and appropriate portion sizes to promote healthy weight in their children. According to the CDC, 15 percent of children ages six to 11 are overweight, putting them at risk for health problems such as diabetes and heart disease.

In other health news, federal regulators warn that fake versions of the impotence pill viagra have been found in two California pharmacies. The FDA is analyzing the counterfeit pills to see if they pose any health risks. So far, no adverse events have been reported.

The fake tablets have more pronounced edges and are a lighter blue than the real ones. The counterfeit pills have prompted Pfize, the maker of viagra, to make plans to introduce new packaging to make the label harder to copy.
