Posted: Updated:

NORTH CAROLINA (CNN) - Sixteen people were on board the HMS Bounty when she sailed into then-Hurricane Sandy off the N.C. coast.

Bill and Joe Svendsen anxiously awaited news about their son John, and whether he survived being washed overboard.

His parents say John suffered a broken hand and ribs but is doing well. His wounds will heal.

However, his thoughts are with the missing, he says;  "I asked if they'd found the other two and he said I don't know a thing. You know, they got them in to the Coast Guard station and they had to go to the hospital and stuff so..."
