Lufkin hospital hosts health fair for diabetes awareness

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

 Lufkin diabetic citizens were given the opportunity to learn more about ways to fight their disease Thursday.

The Polk Diabetic Education Center at Memorial Hospital held a health fair to promote services and products that help fight diabetes. Organizers of the event believe that it fits in with the mission of the center.

"We appreciate all the people coming out today and we're teaching people how to take better care of themselves and with that we're helping control the incidences of diabetes," said Tim Scallon a Polk Center Dietitian.

The event was free to the community and had over 30 vendors handing out information and products as well as a cooking demonstration and discussions by local doctors…on how to live a healthy lifestyle while dealing with diabetes.
