LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -
The United Way was able to surpass its goal in this year's donation drive, Friday.
The group's goal was set at $530,000 and the total raised at 9 A.M. Friday, the total was more then $701,000 dollars. The group was satisfied with the results but did admit they weren't sure they would make the goal today.
"It was such a relief this morning to know that we made the goal, and I can stop worrying about it and now… the campaign doesn't end till next week so hopefully we can bring in a little more,," said Brian Cyr, United Way Chairman.
Friday's results were made possible by a lot of local support including a very generous donation by Lufkin Industries. The company donated over $343,000 to the cause. And a reminder, you can still donate in the drive until the end of next week.
