James Calvert signed a waiver of extradition Friday morning, which means he will return to Tyler by the first of next week to face capital murder charges in the killing of his ex-wife, according to Pat Johnson, warden of the Ouachita Parish, LA, Correctional Center.

Authorities arrested Calvert, 41, late Wednesday night in West Monroe, LA, after a short car chase. Investigators say Calvert killed Jelena Radovanovic Sriraman, 30, just after noon on Oct. 31 in the 3300 block of Bain Place. They say he then kidnapped his 4-year-old son, Lucas.

On Thursday, Lucas and his 5-year-old sister were re-united with their stepfather. Officials with Child Protective Services said they believed the stepfather to be the best option for the children as he has no criminal history and the children were asking for him. They added that he is planning to legally adopt both children.

West Monroe Police held Calvert as a fugitive from justice, which they said would expedite the extradition process.

Sriraman was Calvert's third wife. They were married in 2004 and divorced in 2009.
