A new single pill is available for treating both high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Richard Holt is one of 30 million Americans living with both high blood pressure and high cholesterol. These conditions are two common risk factors for heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. Either alone is cause for concern, but they frequently occur together and when that's the case, they pose a much greater risk for heart attack and stroke. Yet they're not always treated together.
In one study, fewer than one-in-ten patients were able to keep their blood pressure and cholesterol recommended levels. Richard was one of them.
"I originally was diagnosed with high blood pressure, but later on I found out that I had high cholesterol. It is much more convenient to take only one pill instead of two."
Richard can now take one pill making it easier for him to treat his high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Caduet, which was recently approved by the FDA, is the first medication that treats high blood pressure and high cholesterol in one pill.
Caduet is available by prescription. Treatment with caduet was generally well tolerated.
