McFarlin hopes to leave Whitehouse on top

WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) -

Randy McFarlin is set to lead the Whitehouse Wildcats to the playoffs for a school record seventh straight season. Despite the programs first ever 9 and 0 start, Friday night will be McFarlin's last regular season game at Whitehouse.

"I'm sad for the kids and sad for the program," said McFarlin.

In March, McFarlin was informed his contract would not be renewed by Whitehouse ISD. Despite the best regular season in school history, McFarlin says nothing has changed and he doesn't know why.

"That hurts because we built this program," said McFarlin.  "It will still be ours or so to speak. I just hope they get the right person that can be in this program or it will fall apart in a hurry. I don't want it to go back where it was 9 years ago."

For at least two more games, McFarlin will be on the sideline.  His players hope to take the season well into December.

"When it was first announced we had a motto, 'Do it for McFarlin' for a few weeks," said Whitehouse junior Isaiah Burton.  "Then Coach said not to worry about him. Worry about us and the season and getting to state."

McFarlin says he came back for his players.

"For them to be successful, that's what this is all about."

A perfect 10 and 0 season would be a great way to go out.

"I think McFarlin wants to go 10 and 0 deep inside more than we do," said Burton.

"Friday's game to win that game and go deeper into the playoffs than we've ever gone before," said McFarlin.  "Yeah it's a lot of pride on my part to say he you may be making a mistake."
