Engine outage forces Southwest flight to return to Phoenix

A Southwest Airlines flight bound for Ontario, CA, was forced to return to Phoenix-Sky Harbor International Airport on Thursday morning after losing power in an engine, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Flight 1015 landed safely at 8:17 a.m. after the pilot declared an emergency due to an outage in the right engine, the FAA confirmed.

Katie McDonald of Southwest said there were 81 passengers on board when the outage happened about an hour into the flight.

All passengers were put on another plane in Phoenix and arrived at the Ontario airport about 90 minutes late.

No other information was immediately available.
