LUFKIN, TX (News Release) -
The Texas Department of
Transportation (TxDOT) will reconfigure traffic flow on Tuesday at the
intersection of Business 59 (South First Street) and the Loop 287 eastbound
frontage road.
The existing configuration
provides an option for drivers in the right lane to turn left or travel
straight through the intersection while vehicles in the left lane must make a
left turn. However, traffic patterns in the area have changed significantly
because of increased development. The new configuration should accelerate
traffic flow, reducing delays, and at the same time, make the intersection
safer.
When the project is done,
vehicles in the right lane will no longer have an option to turn. That lane
will be for through traffic only. Vehicles in the left lane will have an option
to turn left or travel straight. New signs, pavement markings and signal heads
will be in place to navigate drivers through the intersection safely.
Travelers
are urged to obey all posted traffic control signs and use extreme caution. It
may take a while for drivers to get used to the changes.
