Lufkin man accused of drunk driving in Sept. death

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

The Department of Public Safety has charged a Lufkin man with intoxicated driving in a vehicle wreck which killed a Lufkin man in September.

Angelina County Jail records show Ronald Ray Read, 57, was booked in on charges of second-degree intoxicated manslaughter and second-degree aggravated assault.

According to a previous report, Read was driving a 2001 Ford truck eastbound on Rivercrest Road on Sept. 29 when he left the roadway and struck a tree.

According to the report, Read wasn't injured. His passenger, Rickey Torbert, 52, died on the scene.

Bail has not been set for Read's release.
