PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Four people were in custody after a car-jacking and brief high-speed chase through the West Valley with Phoenix police Friday morning.

The chase began when police spotted a stolen white 2006 Dodge Charger about 5:20 a.m. near 91st Avenue and Buckeye Road, according to Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department. The Charger had been reported taken at gunpoint more than two hours earlier.

The suspects made their way to Interstate 10, where the Phoenix police helicopter began following.

The chase ended at a house near 25th Avenue and Buckeye Road, where the suspects bailed from the care. Officers immediately took three people into custody and were able to catch a fourth suspect shortly after, Martos said. A shotgun was found in the Charger, he said.

The incident began when the suspects allegedly took the car from two people driving home around 3 a.m.

The couple told police they had been followed and parked across from their home and watched the suspects pass by. But the suspects turned around and went back the Charger, where one man pointed a shotgun at the 25-year-old driver and ordered him and a 25-year-old woman out of the car, Martos said.

The suspect kept the shotgun trained on the driver while climbing behind the wheel and began to back up, Martos said. The victim pulled a handgun and fired multiple times at the suspect. No injuries were reported.

The suspects were 18, 17, 15 and 15 years old and were taken to jail.

No other information was immediately available.
