Local non-profit benefits from ETX musician's song

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

A musician who now calls East Texas home, has teamed up with a local non-profit to fight homelessness, something he has experience first-hand.

Martin Caine moved from England to East Texas three years ago.

"I'm home now. I love it, I absolutely love it. Lovely weather, lovely people; it's just a great place to be," Caine said.

Caine, who has written and recorded several songs, said he grew up around music.

"My father used to be a guitarist in a band back in England. Whenever he was at work, I would be just listening to his records...just picking up his guitar, playing," Caine explained.

It is a talent he wanted to put to good use, so he wrote and recorded the song, "Alone." Then, he contacted the East Texas Food Bank.

Caine told Dennis Cullinane, the Executive Director of the East Texas Food Bank, that he wanted all of the proceeds from his latest song to go directly to the non-profit.

"The money will go to our general operating fund. That gives us freedom to put it where we need it the most," Cullinane said.

It is an organization dear to Caine's heart because at one point in his life, he too was hungry.

"I became homeless for a short while in my life and hungry. I've been aware of the food bank since I've been here and I want to do something. They get all the proceeds from it; I'm getting nothing," Caine explained.
