LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Highway 58 and F.M. 2108 in Lufkin sends two people to the hospital.

Emergency crews responded to the accident at approximately 9:15 p.m. Tuesday night.

Officials on the scene said it appears a red Honda pulled out into the intersection where it collided with a PT Cruiser.

"This black vehicle was south bound on 58 and smashed into the red car. They cleared the vehicle and there was another vehicle involved, coming down 58 and didn't see it, smashed into the black vehicle and ended up in the ditch over here in the church parking lot," said Marc Slocum, a DPS State Trooper, who was on the scene.

Officials say two people were seriously injured. No names have been released at this time.

One person was transported by ambulance to a Lufkin Hospital.

Slocum said another person was air lifted and flown to a Tyler hospital. Emergency crews had to turn the parking lot of nearby Fairview Baptist Church into a makeshift landing pad for the emergency helicopter.

Authorities from the Angelina County Sheriff's Office and Diboll Fire Department were on scene to assist with the wreck.

Slocum also said there was a third vehicle involved, but the driver was not hurt.

The condition of the people transported to the hospital is not known at this time.
