Hundreds run off some pre-Thanksgiving calories

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

East Texans kicked off their Thanksgiving with a trot around Nacogdoches this morning.

More than 200 runners suited up for the 3rd annual "Pilgrims Turkey Trot".

Nacogdoches United Way leader, John Thomason says the participation keeps growing and
the runners get faster every year.

The first person to cross the finish line today, finished the race in just over 19 minutes.

The all the money from the 5k run will go to the Nacogdoches United Way.

Thomason says, "it's a great way for families to come out on thanksgiving morning and get a little exercise before their big family feed and we didn't know it would turn out but it has and it's been wonderful"

There were prizes for the top 3 finishers in each age category and for best Thanksgiving costume.
