Nacogdoches man hopes dog will be in Hall of Fame in 2013

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Bill Teague of Nacogdoches recently returned from the Master National Retriever competition with the Vision Award.

"It's the award the master national retriever club gives out to individuals on occasion whose work they deem exemplary," said Teague.

Teague received the award for his leadership work with the competitions.

What Teague really wants is the ultimate award for his 10 year old retriever, Cheers.

"If she [Cheers] gets in to the Master National Hall of Fame, there is only about 250-300 dog's that have earned that title, so it would really be a prestigious event for her, obviously I'm very proud of her," he said.

To get into the hall of fame Cheers would needs to have three passes at Master National Events. She has two.

Teague is hoping next year in Kansas City, Cheers will get the honor.

Teague hasn't let all these awards get to him, and says it is only for the love of the sport.

"You get some nice prizes, but there's no cash and I think that's good because you do it for the love of the sport and not the money."

Cheers couldn't compete this time since Teague was a judge.

Teague also said he doesn't use cheers just for the shows. He takes her and his other retriever Cosby with him on all of his hunts and believes "you haven't been hunting until you've gone hunting with a good dog".
