Don't throw out that used cooking oil; it's recyclable

Posted: Updated:
LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin's recycling center is now collecting used cooking oil just in time for the holiday season. The city says if residents dispose their used oil in the wrong way, it could cause problems with the local sewer system and water treatment. Cooking oil can be recycled and used for different things like alternative fuel.

"The cooking oil can be recycled. Many people don't know that. They just finished frying their thanksgiving turkeys and they're wondering what to do with this left over cooking oil or they're planning on using more cooking oil for the Christmas season, so by properly disposing of the cooking oil you're helping the environment," Amanda Anderson, Angelina Beautiful/Clean Executive Director, said."

Used cooking oil can be brought to the recycling center at 500 Southpark Dr. and dumped into the labeled container Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
