PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A 34-year-old motorist is in jail in connection with a road rage incident on Interstate 17 Wednesday morning, Phoenix police said.

Simon Gillison was booked on charges of aggravated assault.

The incident began when the driver of a semitrailer, heading southbound on I-17 from 19th Avenue, possibly cut off Gillison's vehicle, according to Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Trent Crump.

Gillison then threw an unknown object at the truck, striking the windshield, Crump said. Gillison pulled up alongside the tractor-trailer and began firing shots at the driver, Crump said.

No one was injured. Both drivers pulled over and called police.
