LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -
An almost-20-yearold
Lufkin murder case will be back in court next month. Derrick Griffin is trying
to appeal his murder conviction for the third time.
Griffin is back in the
Angelina County Jail on a bench warrant for his third writ of habeas corpus.
His hearing is set for
Dec. 14 in the 159th Judicial District Court.
In 1995, Griffin was
sentenced to 50 years in prison after he beat his sister to death. Chaka
Griffin called 911, and passed out in the kitchen where her brother beat her
before police and paramedics arrived. She was pronounced dead at a Lufkin
hospital.
