The Pines Theater opens this weekend

For the first time in 40 years, the historic Pines Theater will have its grand opening Saturday.

The newly renovated theater will feature nationally-renowned artists, play classic movies and act as one of Lufkin's premier event venues.

"We have worked really hard as a community to bring back this wonderful historic place back into the lives of those that live here in Lufkin," says Tara Watson-Watkins, with the Pines Theater.

The Pines Theater grand opening will feature a performance by Irish tenor, Paul Byrom, as well as offer a little history about the theater.

"It's so fun listening to the stories of people who grew up here, and are able to bring back their children, and their grandchildren to be able to come back and sit in the seats that they sat in as a child. It's just a full circle of memories and that just a fun thing to be a part of," says Watson-Watkins.

Through the month of December the multi-use venue will showcase Christmas movies to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

"Every Sunday through the month of December we'll actually be showing old Christmas movies," says Watson- Watkins.

The opening of the theater will showcase a part of history current generations may not know.

"I think the grand opening is going to be a beautiful way to showcase what the Pines Theater really represents, and it's all about the history of Lufkin and Angelina County, and it's about bringing memories back to life," says Watson-Watkins.
