LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested a 21-year-old man Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in July.
Austin Wayne Rowland, 21, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a third-degree felony charge of sexual assault of a child and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Although his bond has been set at $500 for the possession charge, no bond has been set for the sexual assault charge.
Lufkin Police officers were dispatched to Memorial Hospital on July 15 in reference to a sexual assault, where they interviewed the victim. Later, LPD Detective Brad Havard interviewed the victim and her 16-year-old friend.
The friend told Havard that she had been in the same room with Rowland and the victim. She told the detective that she had witnessed the sexual assault. Both girls told the LPD officer that Rowland had sexual intercourse with the victim at a residence in the 1600 block of Slack St.
Havard later executed a search warrant at the home and collected evidence associated with the sexual assault. When the detective interviewed Rowland, he allegedly admitted to having sex with the victim.
