LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - An 18-year-old Lufkin man was arrested Sunday for felony criminal mischief for allegedly driving over and breaking several Angelina-Neches Railroad cross ties on Nov. 4. The damage was estimated at $1,845.30.
Jeremy Oder Jr. was charged with criminal mischief between $1,500 and $20,000, a third-degree felony. He posted a bond of $2,000 and was released later Sunday.
On Nov. 4, an Angelina County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a suspicious vehicle call and went to a section of railroad tracks near Stubblefield Drive in Lufkin. After he spotted a vehicle stuck by the railroad tracks, he saw a young man later identified as Oder walking toward him.
When the deputy approached the young man, Oder told him that he had been testing out his 4-wheel-drive pickup and got stuck in a 4-wheeler trail next to the tracks.
Later, an ACSO investigator talked to an Angelina-Neches Railroad employee. The employee walked down the tracks to where Oder's truck was found and found where the vehicle had run over and broken several railroad cross ties.
