East Texan Philip Humber headed to Houston Astros

TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV) - East Texan Phil Humber is glad to be back.

The former Carthage Bulldog was recently claimed by the Houston Astros, after being released by the White Sox.

Humber is back with his family in Tyler, where he's spending his offseason.

Last season certainly was a wild one for Humber.

In April, he fired a perfect game against the Mariners, then struggled down the stretch with consistency and injuries.

The White sox released him last week but he was quickly signed by the Astros.

He's now back in his home state and ready to go.

"I'm more excited about it than anything. The people I care about and care about me they're going to be able to see me play in person. That's a cool part for me," said Humber.

"Also, the proximity to home. My wife and baby won't have to fly home, they can drive and that's going to make life easier on a lot of us. I'm really excited about it and look forward to get started."

Humber will be familiar with the Astros, he was in college at Rice (located in Houston) when the Astros went to the World Series.

He will also be familiar with their opponents, as the Astros move into the American League next season.
