TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tyler Independent School District believes they are close to announcing their lone finalist for superintendent.

Doctor Randy Reid served as TISD's superintendent for five years before resigning to accept the superintendent position for Keller ISD.

In July, TISD's board of trustees named Gary Mooring interim superintendent.

Mooring returned to TISD, having previously served as Deputy Superintendent in August 2006 and Interim Superintendent in December 2006.

Most recently, Mooring worked as the Director of Dual Credit Programs at Tyler Junior College. TISD said he took a leave of absence to fill the interim position.

The board hopes to name a permanent replacement soon.

Tyler ISD is accepting resumes through December 8 for the position. TISD's Communication Director, Dawn Parnell, said the district hopes to name a lone finalist next week. So far, the district said three applicants have turned in resumes.

Tyler ISD does confirm that Mooring is one of those applicants.

"No resumes have been reviewed at this time. We will wait till the closing date, which is December the 8th. Then after that time, the board will review all of the resumes and make a decision on those that they wish to interview," Parnell said.

Once the board of trustees announces their lone finalist for superintendent, they are required by law to wait 21 days before finalizing their decision.
