LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -
Lufkin Police officers arrested a 49-year-old man
after he allegedly used a debit card issued to Griffith & Associates to
purchase $20 worth of gas at a convenience store in the 600 block of North
Raguet Street Sunday evening.
Further investigation revealed that he was allegedly
driving a blue Dodge Neon that had been reported stolen in Hudson. The
arresting officer also found a substance in the car that field-tested positive for
cocaine.
Michael Jewel Swint, of Lufkin is still being held
in the Angelina County Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, credit
card or debit card abuse, possession of a controlled substance less than one
gram, and a capias warrant. Collectively, his bond has been set at $19,714.
"The arrest report does not indicate whether the
owner of the vehicle has any connection with Everett Griffith and Associates,
or not, but the report does speculate that the credit card was taken from a
vehicle other than the stolen Dodge Neon," Detective J.B. Smith, a spokesman
for the Lufkin Police Department, said.
