Nacogdoches residents compete for best Christmas lights

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Judging for the 3rd annual Bert Rees Christmas lighting contest in Nacogdoches is officially over.

Event organizers say the contest is part of the Nine Flags Christmas Festival and it's a great way for residents to get involved and decorate for the holidays.

Awards will be given out for: Holiday Spirit, Reason for the Season, White Light Splendor and Best Christmas Lights Ever!

Event organizer Chey Runnels says, "We hope people get in their cars, turn on the Christmas music, bundle the kids up and go look at Christmas lights. Nacogdoches used to be known for it's Christmas lights and there just used to be whole neighborhoods that just light up."

All the spectacular Christmas light winners and a map of where to find the most festive holiday homes will be in the Sunday edition of the Daily Sentinel.
