Storms possible in ETX tonight

More changes in East Texas weather tonight. Due to the slower movement of the cold front in addition to the very warm evening temperatures out ahead of the front, the severe weather risk is much farther west and includes all of East Texas.  The greatest threat is still across our northeastern counties as mentioned below but now all of East Texas has a slight risk of wind gusts to over 60 miles per hour along with an isolated tornado.  There will be a tornado watch issued shortly for counties mainly north of I-30 and may be followed by additional watches throughout the evening.

Previous discussion:

Scattered thunderstorms with strong gusty winds are possible tonight as a cold front moves through the area.  Right now the greatest threat of severe weather appears to be across our northeastern counties from Mt. Vernon to Longview to Carthage and points north and east.

Areas outside these parts of East Texas can still expect the threat of strong gusty winds with any thunderstorm that develops.  Winds just above the surface are blowing between 50 and 60 miles per hour and these winds could easily be brought down to the surface with the stronger showers and thundershowers.

In addition to strong gusty winds there is a very slight chance an isolated tornado or two could develop in the same areas of our northeastern counties.  Right now the best timing for thunderstorm development appears to be around 10:00 p.m. in our western counties, midnight for the Tyler-Longview areas, and 1:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. for the US 59 corridor from Marshall south to Center.

After the front moves through, much colder air will spread across the area tomorrow.  Highs will struggle to reach the lower to middle 50s with strong northwesterly wind, making it feel much colder.  Winds at times tomorrow will gust over 30 miles per hour again before dying down towards sunset.  Stay tuned to KLTV and for the latest developing weather situation.
