Security cameras were installed throughout Meriden following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Friday.
The 160 cameras were set up across downtown and various housing authority buildings.
The city is going to get a bid waiver and someone will be in the schools next week installing cameras too. There has been an increased police presence around all schools.
The superintendent wants to ensure there is a balance between school security and making sure the Meriden schools are a welcoming environment for students and staff.
Those surveillance cameras can zoom, tilt and pan 180 degrees to allow officers to better patrol the streets from the station.
Training to operate those cameras for officers is set to begin in January.
