An area of low pressure will develop along a cold front that will sink south across Texas Sunday night into Monday morning. At the same time, an area of Arctic air will sink south across the Great Plains, setting the stage for a possible winter weather event.
As with all winter weather situations in East Texas, a lot could happen to change the anticipated forecast, so people with travel plans Christmas night into Wednesday should continue to check back with KLTV and kltv.com for the latest developments.
As of Friday evening, this is what looks to be the most likely scenario: East Texas will see rain develop out ahead of the developing low pressure on Christmas. As the low moves off to the northeast, cold air will wrap around this area of low pressure, causing areas of rain to mix with our change to snow.
This changeover does not appear to be long enough to cause any major accumulation of snow; maybe a half inch along the I-30 corridor. Snow could mix in with rain as early as noon on Christmas across the I-30 corridor and possibly across the I-20 corridor before ending in the evening hours.
Through the overnight hours Christmas night into Wednesday morning, there may be enough wrap-around moisture to produce a few snow flurries across East Texas, but right now the moisture does not appear that it will be enough for any accumulation.
Again, a lot could change between now and Christmas with this forecast. If the low moves farther south, much of East Texas could see accumulating snow.
If it moves farther north, East Texas would just see rain.
