Downtown Lufkin restaurant Manhattan hosts free spaghetti dinner

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Destin Sabani, the owner of the Italian restaurant Manhattan, hosted his annual free spaghetti dinner today outside of the Perry Building. The dinner lasted from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Last year, Sabani made enough spaghetti to feed 400 people. This year, he is expecting to feed at least 500 mouths.

"I just feel there is a need. It's Christmas time; you need to make people happy with Christmas and holiday spirit and I just decided to do it," Sabani said.

Sabani says he wants people to be able to grab a hot meal while they are downtown shopping for the holidays. This year, the nonprofit organization the Pilot Club, donated hundreds of cupcakes for the dinner.

Sabani says he plans on doing the free spaghetti dinner each year.
