Nacogdoches church: Music building a total loss after fire

Posted: Updated:
NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Thursday's fire at a Nacogdoches church school's property destroyed a portable building used for art and music classes, according to the church's priest.

Nacogdoches firefighters responded to Christ Episcopal School, located on the 1400 block of Mound Street,  at 2:57 p.m.

According to an email from Rev. Howard Castleberry to his congregation, the fire destroyed the portable building, but no instruments were damaged. The church had full insurance on the building.

Nacogdoches Fire Marshal Del Birdwell said it looks like the fire started in the building's heating unit. He said technicians had been working on the unit earlier this week, and that it could have been left on its auto setting. However, Birdwell said the unit was destroyed in the fire, so they have no way of being completely sure that was what caused the fire.
