ETX Group holds fundraiser for Newtown families

A little East Texas girl is sending a message of love and caring to heartbroken families in Connecticut. Holding signs at Longview's Calvary Tabernacle, volunteers were urging passersby to stop and help raise money for Newtown families.

"We know its right after the holidays, we just want people to come out, they still need out support , they still need the funds," says event co-organizer Tisa DeLoach.

Selling holiday items, food , and arts and crafts, the idea came from 8 year old Lainee Cornell a student at Spring Hill, who saw the reports on the shooting and wanted to financially help the families.

"I've been outside holding some signs, and telling people to come and buy some stuff. I wanted to get enough money to pay for their funerals," Lainee says.

"For the rest of their lives people in Connecticut will have to remember that day that changed their lives forever," DeLoach says.

The response from East Texans has been all that they had hoped for.

"It is an amazing thing. With what she's done , we've seen a response on line and other cities and other towns. We just home that families back in Connecticut will see that a little girl that is not in their community their town their school as far away as Texas is thinking about them," says Lainee's father Larry Cornell.

In some way , Lainee hopes this gesture will bring comfort to hurting families.

"I hope I help you," says Lainee.

All money raised will be sent to a bank in Connecticut. If you'd like to help you can donate at
