PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Three suspects are in custody after an 18-year-old woman died after being stabbed and in an accident on the Interstate 17.
The victim, Lorena Sandra Uzueta, was stabbed by a 17-year-old after trying to stop a fight near 28th Avenue and Dunlap, according to Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.
Thompson said after she was stabbed Alexis Nicole Hernandez started to fight with her.
Hernandez allegedly held Uzueta down while the 17-year-old stabbed her again for a second time, according to Thompson.
The suspect fled the area.
Friends of Uzueta were driving her to the hospital when they were involved in a crash on I-17 near Glendale. She was taken to the hospital after officials arrived, where she later died.
The suspects were found and detained.
The 17-year-old was detained in the Maricopa Juvenile Court Center, charged with first-degree murder for the death of Uzueta and Hernandez was booked into Maricopa County Jail, charged with aggravated assault.
A third suspect, Charlie Trinidad, was found to have fired a gun into the air during the initial fight, said Thompson. Trinidad was booked into jail and charged with misconduct involving weapons and possession of marijuana.
