Angelina Co. welcomes first baby of 2013

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Memorial Medical Center welcomed Juliann Eduardo Ortega as the first baby of 2013 in Angelina County.

Little Juliann weighed 6 pounds 15 ounces and was born at 8:25 p.m. His mother and four older siblings were not expecting him until January 8, but to their surprise he was a New Year's baby.

His mother, Maria Orta, was in labor for eight hours New Year's Day, but she said that she didn't mind one bit.

"Well, it's a blessing. I mean all that matters is I didn't care you know if it was the first baby, but as long as he was healthy and ready to come out," Orta said. "Every year now is going to be like celebrating New Year's and you know his birthday. It's going to be a really special day from now on."

Maria says she didn't think Juliann was coming yesterday. She thought she would be sent home until her due date.
