Lufkin Fire Dept.: Bathroom blazes intentionally set

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

The Lufkin Fire Department is investigating two park restroom fires as arson, according to a department spokesman.

Firefighters responded to the scene, located in Kiwanis Park on Tulane Drive around 11 p.m. Friday.

According to battalion Chief David Cross, the department came after a call came in to dispatch. All doors were locked at the restroom so they had to force into the structure.

Spokesman Steve McCool said an investigation reveals they were intentionally set and were two separate fires. One was set in the men's restroom and the other in the women's.

"We believe it might have been a vagrant that attempted to use the structure to get out of the weather and they were made to leave the structure because you aren't allowed to sleep in a public restroom," McCool said.
