NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested a 41-year-old Houston man for possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop early Monday morning.
Virgil Smith III is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on second-degree felony charge of possession of a controlled substance between 4 and 200 grams. No bond has been set at this time.
At about 1:22 a.m. Monday, a DPS trooper stopped Smith for speeding on US Highway 59 in Nacogdoches County, according to the arrest affidavit. When the trooper questioned Smith, he observed "numerous indicators of criminal activity" and got permission to search Smith's car.
The search allegedly revealed a plastic bag containing about 30 grams of powdered cocaine hidden behind the plastic molding of the center console, according to the arrest affidavit. Smith was arrested at the scene and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
