COLDSPRING, TX (KTRE) -
The
funeral for San Jacinto County Sheriff James Walter was held Friday. Walters,
66, died Wednesday after a lengthy battle with cancer. In a show of "interdepartmental cooperation," Deputies from Trinity and Polk counties were sent to assist with patrol duties.
According
to an ABC affiliate in Coldspring, Walters had recently been elected to a
second term in office. A press release stated that one of Walters' final wishes
was for his chief deputy, Robert Long, to continue leading the department.
An
official with the Trinity County Sheriff's Department said they and the Polk
County Sheriff's agreed to send two deputies each to San Jacinto to help with patrol
duties, so that San Jacinto County deputies could go to Walters' funeral.
