Construction begins on Nacogdoches Memorial expansion

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Construction has begun for expansion of a Nacogdoches hospital, which will pose a few traffic inconveniences.

Friday, a celebration of life was held for Nacogdoches County Memorial Hospital CEO Tim Hayward. He died suddenly last weekend. The liver transplant recipient worked the last seven years on developing a major hospital expansion.

It's only fitting construction preparation began yesterday, on what would have been Hayward's 50th birthday. The 18-month construction will pose a few inconveniences. Raguet Street, behind the hospital will be closed.

"When you enter the campus you will see a fence," said Jane Ann Bridges, acting administrator of the hospital  "And that will encompass a large portion of the campus. We've put out maps in our doctor's offices and places around the facility to help educate our visitors and guests and patients as to where to enter the facility."

The emergency room entrance will also be closed, but patients can enter where the ambulance unloads. The project will see the labor and delivery, nursery and postpartum departments relocated together. The surgery department will double in size and a new GI lab will be built.
