LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -
The Lufkin Salvation
Army feeds and clothes hundreds of families each year throughout the Angelina County
area.
The captain of the
local Salvation Army said they are down $40,000 in giving. Monetary donations
are needed right now to help provide food for families in need and to help pay
for the Salvation Army programs such as the food pantry program. With the great
loss of money it is becoming harder to keep children and adults fed.
"Non-perishable
foods are huge to us," Captain John Branscum of the Salvation Army said. "We
give those out, we cook those. You know there's not a day in the year that
we're not feeing somebody through our shelter, or through our feeding program,
or our adult day care center."
The Salvation Army is
also asking for clothing donations, which are especially important this time of
year with the cooler temperatures.
"Cash is very much needed as well as clothing,"
Branscum said. "We give out tons of clothing especially this time of year when
it's cooler. People are wanting to bundle up, so they're coming to us for a few
extra items as well as food."
